Sabaidee, Luang Prabang!

We have heard so many nice stories about Laos, more specifically, Luang Prabang, which is called "The Pearl of Asia", and is also a UNESCO World Heritage site, just like the Angkor temples.

There was a taxi stand as we exited the arrival area of the airport. We paid about 7USD for a shuttle van ride to the town of Luang Prabang.

We stayed at the Bouakham Chantasack Guesthouse, near the National Museum of Luang Prabang. We chose this hotel since everything is only a few steps away...

I guess we made the right choice -- we had a great room with solid wood everywhere! Even the ceilings were made of tigerwood!

We didn't plan anything for the day, but just wanted to get a feel of the town so we just walked around.

A short walk from the hotel is the main road, where all the action happens! In this pic vendors are getting ready for the nightly shopping that is the Luang Prabang Night Market:

We see tuktuks again! Although these are of a different chassis, some have car engines instead of motorcycle engines, a far cry from the scooter-drawn tuktuks of Siem Reap.

Getting hungry already, but first we had to change some of our money into Lao Kip:

One could easily become a millionaire in Laos, we changed $20, and got 169,420 LAK!

We ate at a restaurant called Tum Tum Bamboo. They also offer culinary classes specialized in Lao food. If you want to taste real Lao food, then this is one of the places to go.

I had some Lao coffee, and D had some Sprite:

Nam Sod Kai Koong or Spring rolls with Prawns - overly different from the spring rolls we had in Cambodia, these had more veggies in it and the herbs used really gave interesting tastes!

I ordered Keng Tjud Nor Mai or specially known as the mild Tum Tum bamboo soup -- now this is something my Dad would like. It tastes like the Filipino "labong", complete with ginger and other veggies. Tastes very healthy and comforting, ;)

D ordered Kai Pad Mak Muon Heemaphan or Fried chicken with cashew nuts and vegetables, this one is yummy!! I actually ate most of his food.

After the big meal we had, we waited for sunset again at the Mekong River:
