We saved the best temple for the last hours of our Temple Passes. We were here for sunset the other day, but today, we devoted an entire afternoon just to explore the famous Angkor Wat.
This was after lunch, around 2pm, wherein temperature was at its peak.
D on the walkway in between moats which leads to the Angkor Temple:
It was suggested that Angkor Wat had to be toured anti-clockwise, to be able to interpret the galleries surrounding it. The galleries are home to many beautiful and meaningful carvings:
Wristshots of our reliable watches for this trip, Seiko 5's, on one of the walls near Angkor's entrance:
The dancing Apsaras fill the walls of Angkor. The apsaras are a common sight in other temples of Angkor as well.:
This image near the entrance was said to be of Vishnu, the god with many hands. Its head was later on changed to Buddha's head for it to adapt to the religion of Buddhism. :
We had to walk, climb, take pictures, go down, walk and climb again... The heat and humidity was taking its toll on our energy, but every corner in the galleries of this temple presented a new surprise which just couldn't be ignored. Each carving had stories to tell which we were trying to interpret and appreciate. There were many how's and why's that were asked in our conversations, due to an overwhelming amazement of what we saw.
The galleries:
On our way to the exit, we saw some kind of ritual wherein little boys had their hair cut by Buddhist Monks.
The sun was setting fast -- we had spent hours inside and around the temple. We were low on energy, but our spirits were high. We fervently wish that one day, we could come back, and hopefully our families will be with us so that they could have the same incredible experience.
The Wonder that is Angkor Wat.
